NEW DELHI (ANI)– An Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi was forced to return to Chicago on March 6 due to a technical snag, a spokesperson for the airline confirmed on March 10.
The spokesperson explained that alternative arrangements were made for passengers to reach their destinations. “AI126, operating from Chicago to Delhi on March 6, 2025, returned to Chicago due to a technical issue. Upon landing, all passengers and crew disembarked normally and were provided with accommodation to minimize inconvenience,” the spokesperson stated.
Passengers were offered full refunds and complimentary rescheduling for cancellations. “Alternative arrangements are being made to fly passengers to their destination. Full refunds and complimentary rescheduling are also available for those who opt for them. At Air India, the safety and well-being of our customers and crew remain our top priority,” the airline added.
The flight reportedly turned back while flying over Greenland after experiencing a significant issue with its lavatories. According to The New York Post, 11 out of the 12 toilets became inoperable, leaving only one functioning lavatory for approximately 300 passengers. Even a few inoperable toilets can lead to a flight being turned around due to limited bathroom availability on board.

Air-India has disasters everyday. People still want to fly because it is cheap.
March 10, 2025Our travel agent wanted to sell us an Air India ticket to India, even though we told him no Air India. He said “you will save a lot of $$”
Well – we did not and see the result everyday.
Air India needs to shut down and then think – Is there anything they are doing is right?? The answer is NO.

Thought AI is now Tata owned and perhaps service levels might have improved. Clogged toilets point to a larger problem. This is also an issue when flying Emirates, Singapore Airlines from cities where there is a significant South Asian (India-Pak-Bangladesh) diaspora. Individuals go to the bathroom and unload, take a full shower and throw in paper napkins inside the toilet bowl. What can expect? Garbage in-Garbage out!
Blame necessarily should be placed elsewhere.
In the earlier days, AI was considered a no-go airline because passengers mostly were free loaders (be it MP, MLAs, their relatives on free travel quota).
