Grammy Adds New Categories To Its Awards Line-Up

LOS ANGELES-The Grammy Awards have added five new categories and approved several eligibility rule changes for the 2027 awards.

The 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 7, 2027, will feature new categories in Latin, Asian Pop and R&B music, among other additions.

The Recording Academy also updated eligibility rules for two major categories. The maximum number of times an artist may be submitted for Best New Artist consideration has been increased from three to four.

In addition, the threshold of new recordings required for an eligible album has been lowered from 75 percent to 66 percent, a move intended to reduce the exclusion of projects widely recognized within the music industry as new albums.

The Academy also expanded recognition for songwriters. Songwriters and composers of new material on winning albums in most genre album categories will now receive Grammy statuettes and Achievement Certificates, bringing their recognition in line with that of producers and engineers. (IANS)
