NEW YORK, NY – NYU has announced the appointment of Bharat N. Anand as the next dean of the Leonard N. Stern School of Business. Currently a vice provost at Harvard University and a professor at Harvard Business School, Anand will take up his new role in August 2025.

Anand brings extensive experience in digital strategy, corporate leadership, and education innovation. At Harvard, he held several key positions, including founding faculty chair and senior associate dean of HBS Online, where he helped launch a new model of online business education, a press release detailed adding that as vice provost, he played a major role in shaping Harvard’s teaching approach during the pandemic.

His research focuses on the business challenges of the digital age—especially how companies can get noticed and get paid. He is the author of The Content Trap: A Strategist’s Guide to Digital Change, recognized by Fast Company and Bloomberg as one of the top business books of 2016.

Anand studied economics at Harvard (BA) and Princeton (PhD). He began his academic career at Yale School of Management before joining HBS in 1998. Over the years, he has earned multiple teaching and research awards and is currently chairing Harvard’s Generative AI Working Group for Teaching and Learning.

NYU President Linda G. Mills described Anand as “deeply strategic” and “a careful listener,” emphasizing his experience in building partnerships and navigating complex academic environments.

In response to his appointment, Anand said he was excited to join Stern, describing the school as “entrepreneurial, energetic, and global.”
