DENVER, CO — Hetal Doshi is running for Colorado attorney general and has secured a major early boost: the endorsement of the Indian American Impact Fund.
Doshi, a first-generation American with more than two decades of legal experience, said she entered the race because Democratic institutions today are under attack.
Her campaign has drawn attention for its emphasis on defending democracy beyond the Trump years. “It is important to think about what happens post-Trump,” she said, pledging to continue Colorado’s record of challenging federal overreach while broadening the office’s focus on consumer protection and economic fairness.
Her campaign, launched June 5, has already made a mark. Within 24 hours, she raised $265,000 — the largest single-day fundraising haul ever for a state-level candidate in Colorado.
If elected, Doshi would become the first South Asian to serve as Colorado’s attorney general.
Born to immigrant parents who came to the U.S. from India, Doshi often highlights her family’s sacrifices as motivation for her work. “My parents left everything behind in India with the hope of building a better life in America,” she says on the campaign trail and videos. “But today more than ever, working families are falling further and further behind… That is why I am running: to keep our communities safe, ensure our economy is fair, and protect every Coloradan’s rights and dignity.”
Doshi began her career as a federal prosecutor in Colorado, handling fraud, corruption, and civil rights cases. She later served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, where she led lawsuits against Google, Apple, and Ticketmaster, taking on corporate power she says, “rigged the system against working people.”
The endorsement from the Indian American Impact Fund underscores her appeal to a growing and politically active community. “Hetal Doshi is the proven fighter Coloradans need as their Attorney General,” said Chintan Patel, the group’s executive director. “She has taken on fraud, corruption, and some of the biggest corporations in America to deliver results for everyday people.”
Current Attorney General Phil Weiser is term-limited and seeking the governor’s office, leaving the field open in 2026. Doshi faces a crowded Democratic primary next June, while only one Republican has entered the race so far.
Outside the courtroom, Doshi enjoys live music, dance, and exploring Colorado’s distilleries. She describes herself as “very average” at cooking and photography but embraces both hobbies. She lives in Denver with her husband Andrew and their dog, Zuri. Doshi earned her law degree from the University of Virginia and a bachelor’s degree from Emory University.
