India Ranks 2nd Globally In Fish Production

NEW DELHI-India is the world’s second-largest fish producer, contributing 8 per cent to global output, ranks second in aquaculture production, leads in shrimp production and exports, and is one of the largest producers in capture fisheries, the government said on August 17.

Since 2015, the government has made cumulative investments of Rs 39,272 crore through key initiatives.

The fisheries and aquaculture sector plays a critical role in India’s economy, providing livelihoods to approximately three crore fishers and fish farmers and generating employment across the value chain, the government said. (IANS)
