GAINESVILLE, GA – Dr. Kapil Pareek, Dr. Jyoti Manekar, and Dr. Anisha Patel, three Indian American doctors, have filed a civil rights lawsuit against Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) and three other medical groups, alleging racial discrimination and retaliation. The lawsuit, filed on January 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, accuses NGHS, Northside Hospital, Georgia Urology, and Northeast Georgia Physicians Group of systematically undermining their professional practices due to their Indian heritage.
The plaintiffs claim they were subjected to baseless accusations regarding their fitness for duty and faced retaliation after reporting discriminatory treatment. Despite their practices being transferred from NGHS to Northside Hospital and Georgia Urology, the doctors allege the discriminatory behavior continued.
NGHS has responded to the lawsuit through its attorney, Andria Lure Ryan. “Given this is active litigation, we are not in a position to comment and look forward to contesting the claims in court,” Ryan stated.
She added, “We value the diversity of our employees and stand behind NGHS policies that the organization complies with applicable Federal and State civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex, or any other basis protected by law.”
