MUMBAI (ANI)- The Indian documentary Turtle Walker, directed by Taira Malaney and produced by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, has been selected for a special screening at the United Nations Ocean Conference which will take place in Nice, France, from June 9 to 13.

Turtle Walker chronicles the work of Satish Bhaskar, a sea turtle conservationist who has spent decades studying and protecting endangered turtles along India’s coastal regions and islands. Beginning in the late 1970s, Bhaskar traveled extensively to document nesting sites and better understand turtle behavior, playing a pivotal role in raising awareness about marine conservation in India.

Originally conceived as a small independent project by a team from Goa, the film expanded over seven years into an international production. It was supported by Indian studios Tiger Baby and Emaho Films, alongside U.S.-based HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, an Oscar-nominated outfit.

The documentary premiered at the Doc NYC festival in 2024 and has since earned multiple accolades, including the prestigious Grand Teton Award at the Jackson Wild Media Awards. It also received honors at the Blue Water Film Festival, the International Ocean Film Festival, and Santiago Wild.

The film is part of an ongoing campaign aimed at marine conservation.
