WASHINGTON, DC- Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal has accused President Donald Trump of seriously hurting America’s standing around the world, saying governments are increasingly unsure whether Washington can be trusted to honor its commitments.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper elDiario.es, Jayapal said the concern goes beyond Trump’s current policies. Governments, she said, are also worried that agreements made with one US administration could be reversed by the next.

She said some US counterparts abroad have told her they no longer trust Washington, particularly because a future president could choose to undo an agreement reached by the current administration.

Jayapal warned that this uncertainty could prompt countries to deepen their relationships with other major powers, including China.

She also sharply criticized Trump’s handling of the war with Iran, saying the United States entered the conflict without a strategy, congressional authorization or a plan for how to end it.

She called for diplomacy as the only viable way forward and criticized Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the 2015 nuclear agreement negotiated during former President Barack Obama’s administration.
