JERSEY CITY, NJ – Mamta Singh on January 15 was sworn in as Jersey City’s Councilwoman-at-Large, taking her oath of office on the Bhagavad Gita during a public inauguration ceremony held at New Jersey City University.

Singh was sworn in in the presence of prominent Indian American leaders, including New Jersey State Senator Raj Mukherji and Assemblyman Ravi Bhalla.
The ceremony featured formal civic pageantry. Senator Andy Kim administered the oaths, while James Solomon was sworn in as Jersey City’s 50th mayor. In his remarks, Solomon pledged a city government focused on “affordability and opportunity for all residents,” while emphasizing that his administration would pursue “big dreams” alongside improvements to everyday quality-of-life issues.

In another nod to expanding Indian American representation in city government, Solomon announced the appointment of Keshav Poddar as Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development.
