RICHMOND, VA – JJ Singh has emerged as the Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 26th House District special election, securing a decisive victory in a crowded primary. Singh garnered 745 out of the 1,839 ballots cast, outperforming four other candidates, including Sam Nandi (425 votes), Ibraheem Samirah (323 votes), Loudoun County School Board Vice Chair Arben Istrefi (280 votes), and Lakesha Gorham-McDurfee (66 votes).
In the January 7 special election, Singh will face Republican nominee Ram Venkatachalam. The election was called following the resignation of Del. Kannan Srinivasan, as he campaigns for the 32nd Senate District seat.
Newly minted congressman Suhas Subramanyam congratulated Singh, saying, “Congrats to JJ Singh for Delegate on winning today’s HD-26 primary! Thanks to all the candidates who ran. The work starts now to get him and Kannan Srinivasan across the finish line on January 7 and keep our majority in the General Assembly.”
A seasoned public servant, Singh brings a wealth of experience to the race. He has served in the Peace Corps in Bolivia, worked in the Obama Administration’s Budget Office, and advised US Senator Chris Coons (D-De) on policy. At the local level, he has contributed as a member of Loudoun County’s Economic Development Commission and as treasurer of the Loudoun County Democratic Committee.
Singh’s campaign focuses on key issues, including codifying abortion access into Virginia’s Constitution, reducing costs for Virginians, implementing gun safety legislation, and building a clean economy. His policy priorities reflect a commitment to addressing pressing local and statewide concerns.
