LOS ANGELES, CA – Kal Penn opened up about his interest in potentially taking over as the permanent host of The Daily Show after guest-hosting for two weeks last season. While speaking with People, Penn reflected on his time on the Comedy Central talk show and his thoughts on its future.
“I had the chance to guest host two weeks on The Daily Show last season, so we’ll see,” Penn said, expressing his excitement. “They say Jon [Stewart] is back for one season. The fanboy part of me is like, I hope Jon stays on The Daily Show, because I’m such a fan and I grew up on [it].”
In addition to his hopes for The Daily Show, Penn touched on the possibility of reprising his role as Kumar in a fourth installment of the Harold & Kumar series. “I would love to do that if it works out,” Penn told People, signaling his enthusiasm for returning to the beloved franchise alongside co-star John Cho.
Penn’s upcoming role is in the film Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, based on the book Trust Me, I’m a Doctor: My Life Before, During, and After Anna Nicole Smith by Dr. Sandeep Kapoor. Penn will portray Kapoor, who was Smith’s physician at the time of her accidental overdose.
