KKR Spinner Varun Chakravarthy Sets New Indian T20 Record
KOLKATA- Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy entered the record books on April 19 by becoming the fastest Indian spinner to reach 200 wickets in T20 cricket.
The milestone came during the Indian Premier League 2026 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens, when Varun Chakravarthy struck in his first over.
He dismissed Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who mistimed a shot off a flighted delivery and was caught in the deep by Kolkata Knight Riders fielder Ramandeep Singh.
The wicket took Chakravarthy past the 200-wicket mark in the fewest innings among Indian spinners in T20 cricket.
Varun Chakravarthy finished with figures of 3 for 14, also dismissing Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, helping restrict Rajasthan Royals to 159 for 8 in 20 overs.
He reached the milestone in 155 innings, surpassing India spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who took 160 innings. India pacer Jaydev Unadkat did so in 162 innings, while India fast bowler Mohammed Shami reached the mark in 165 innings.
India left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh remains the fastest Indian overall to 200 T20 wickets, achieving the feat in 151 innings.
