‘Limitless’ Director Neil Burger Is A SRK Fan

NEW DELHI (ANI) – Acclaimed filmmaker Neil Burger, known for The Illusionist and Limitless, recently expressed his deep admiration for India — its cinema, culture, and especially Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan.

Burger was in Delhi to shoot a key segment of his latest project, Inheritance, an international espionage thriller starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rhys Ifans. Explaining why he chose the Indian capital, he said, “I love Delhi. I like Mumbai too. I really like everywhere. India has this sense of mystery and wonder — certainly for someone from the West. The people are incredibly friendly and generous, and the energy on the streets was exactly what we needed for the film.”

Co-written by Burger and Olen Steinhauer during the pandemic, Inheritance is a globe-trotting narrative shot entirely on an iPhone. It spans cities from New York to Cairo, Seoul, and New Delhi, exploring how cultures adapted in a post-Covid world.

“I didn’t want to make a documentary,” Burger explained. “I’m a narrative filmmaker, so I built a story that explores how different cultures are evolving. That’s why India — especially Delhi — felt essential.”

Burger’s connection to India runs deeper through his wife, architect Diana Kellogg, who has worked in the country for over a decade. She designed a girls’ school in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. “India has been so welcoming to her — so generous,” he said. “Through her, I’ve developed a real bond with the country.”

Naturally, the conversation turned to Indian films and cuisine. “I do follow Indian cinema. I’m a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan,” Burger said. “I’ve watched a lot of Bollywood films — they fascinate me. And don’t get me started on the food. I love naan and roti!”

Reflecting on his experience filming in India, Burger described it as “phenomenal.”
“We had a great crew and fantastic actors. Delhi just came alive on screen,” he said. “It was everything I hoped for — and more.”
