Men & Women The Same—There Shouldn’t Be Hierarchy: Jyotika On Dabba Cartel And Feminism
NEW DELHI (ANI)- Netflix’s latest series, Dabba Cartel, stars Jyotika as Varuna, a woman juggling family, career, and society’s expectations. Her story reflects the challenges many women face in balancing motherhood, marriage, and ambition while fighting for equality at home and work.
The show follows five middle-class women whose dabba (lunchbox) business takes an unexpected turn when they get caught up in a drug cartel.
Talking about her role, Jyotika said, “Varuna’s story mirrors the lives of many women. Playing such a relatable character is both challenging and exciting.” She also emphasized that feminism is about equality, stating, “Men and women are the same—there shouldn’t be a hierarchy.”
Jyotika spoke about the everyday struggles of managing multiple roles. “As a married woman, you’re never at 100% all the time. Even before this interview, I was handling things at home—my daughter had just finished an exam. No matter where you are, a part of you is always thinking about home.”
The gripping drama features an ensemble cast, including Shabana Azmi, Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Lillete Dubey, and Gajraj Rao. Directed by Hitesh Bhatia and written by Vishnu Menon and Bhavna Kher, Dabba Cartel is created by Shibani Akhtar, Vishnu Menon, Gaurav Kapur, and Akanksha Seda.
