Mindy Kaling Expands Netflix Empire As ‘Sex Lives Of College Girls’ Joins Platform

LOS ANGELES, CA-Netflix has added all three seasons of ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ to its U.S. lineup, bringing the Warner Bros. Television comedy to the same platform as Mindy Kaling’s coming-of-age series ‘Never Have I Ever.’

The college comedy, co-created by Kaling and Justin Noble, has begun streaming on Netflix under a non-exclusive licensing arrangement. All three seasons remain available on HBO Max.

The move brings together two parts of a loosely connected trilogy inspired by different stages of Kaling’s life. ‘Never Have I Ever’ follows the teenage experience through high school, while ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ draws on Kaling’s time at Dartmouth. The third series, ‘Not Suitable For Work,’ centers on work-obsessed twenty-somethings in New York and draws from Kaling’s own early 20s in the city.

The Netflix deal comes days after Hulu canceled ‘Not Suitable For Work’ following its first season. A second season of ‘Not Suitable For Work’ on Netflix is considered a long shot, Deadline reported.

It is rare for a canceled streaming series to find a new home on another platform, the portal said.

Kaling also has a longstanding relationship with Netflix. Bela Bajaria, now the streamer’s Chief Content Officer, had championed ‘The Mindy Project’ during her time as president of Universal Television and supported its move to Fox after NBC passed on the pilot. Deadline noted.

‘The Mindy Project’ was later available on Netflix for years, while Kaling’s ‘Running Point’ is also on the platform and has been renewed for a third season.
