LOS ANGELES, CA – Actress, producer, and writer Mindy Kaling was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with longtime friend and former co-star BJ Novak among those present at the event.
The 45-year-old author, actress, and creator behind hit series like The Mindy Project, The Sex Lives of College Girls, and Never Have I Ever—widely recognized for her role as Kelly Kapoor on The Office—witnessed a milestone moment as her name was unveiled in cement on Hollywood Boulevard, honoring her impact on television.
“This is one of those moments where I’m reminding myself to be present,” Kaling quipped during her acceptance speech. “I’m so happy—I love recognition.”
Kaling, 45, and Novak, also 45, first met in 2004 on the set of the hit comedy series The Office and were in an on-and-off relationship until 2007. Despite their past, they have remained close, with Novak serving as the godparent to Kaling’s three children.

During her acceptance speech, Kaling acknowledged Novak’s significance in her life. “He’s such an important and integral part of my family,” she said, adding, “Sometimes I forget that the reason that I know him is because we worked together professionally.”
Novak also spoke at the ceremony, highlighting Kaling’s professional achievements and personal qualities. He described her as a “brilliant and wildly successful showrunner,” an “incredible mother of three,” and a “deep and caring daughter, friend, and mentor to many.” He also commented on her public appeal, noting, “It’s impossible to leave a restaurant with her without people wanting not just a picture but to share a memory or anecdote about why she matters so much.”
Kaling’s children—Katherine Swati, 7, Spencer Avu, 4, and Anne, 1—were not present at the event. The close bond between Kaling and Novak has led to speculation about the paternity of her children, which Kaling has consistently dismissed. She has stated that she will address the topic with her children before making any public disclosures.

In past interviews, Kaling has spoken about the unique nature of Novak’s role as a godparent, given their different religious backgrounds. “Godparents are a Christian tradition, and I’m Hindu and he’s Jewish. It makes no sense really, but we really think like, ‘Christians really got this right, this is a great tradition,'” she said in 2020.
The ceremony marked another milestone in Kaling’s career, which spans acting, producing, and writing for television and film. She joins a long list of entertainment industry figures who have been recognized with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (with ANI inputs)
