OCI Students To Be Treated Same As Indian Citizens In Medical Admissions

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Karnataka High Court has ruled that students holding Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cards should receive equal treatment with Indian citizens during the online counseling process for admission to undergraduate medical, dental, and engineering courses for the academic year 2024-2025.

This decision came after the State Government affirmed that it had no objection to admitting OCI cardholder students on par with Indian citizens for undergraduate medical, dental, and engineering seats in both government and private colleges for the academic year 2024-25.

The High Court’s order addresses the controversy which stipulated that OCI cardholders could only be admitted against Non-Resident Indian seats or supernumerary seats in national-level entrance tests like NEET, JEE (Mains), and JEE (Advanced), thereby excluding seats reserved exclusively for Indian citizens.
