TRENTON, NJ – A 24-year-old Indian woman, Simran, has gone missing in New Jersey, days after arriving in the US for what officials say was an arranged marriage.

Simran was last seen on June 20 in Lindenwold, shortly after her arrival from India. Surveillance footage reviewed by Lindenwold police showed her checking her phone, appearing to wait for someone, and not in distress. She was reported missing five days later, on June 25.

A preliminary investigation by authorities indicates she traveled to the U.S. for an arranged marriage. However, investigators are also exploring the possibility, as reported by The NY Post, that the marriage served as a pretext to obtain free airfare to America.

Lindenwold police face challenges in the search, as Simran has no known relatives in the United States and does not speak English. Her only phone is an international device that operates solely via Wi-Fi, and authorities have been unable to contact any family members in India

Simran is described as five feet, four inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with a small scar on the left side of her forehead. She was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and small diamond-studded earrings.
