Pramila Jayapal Says For First Time She Fears Biden’s Chances In 2024

WASHINGTON, DC (IANS) – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal fears that the 2024 election is in “great trouble” for President Joe Biden with new polls showing him trailing in multiple battleground states.

Jayapal’s remarks came after a New York Times and Siena College poll showed Biden trailing former President Donald Trump in five out of six battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and Pennsylvania.

“You said the polls really don’t reflect where people are, I agree with you. But I will tell you — this is the first time… that I have felt like the 2024 election is in great trouble for the president and for our Democratic control, which is essential to moving forward,” Jayapal told MSNBC host Jen Psaki.

Jayapal, a Democrat who represents Washington’s 7th congressional district in the House, said maintaining Democratic control is important amid the Israel-Hamas war, which has killed more than 10,000 people in Gaza.

“Because these young people — Muslim Americans, Arab Americans, but also young people — see this conflict as a moral conflict and a moral crisis,” Jayapal told the former White House Press Secretary.

“And they are not going to be brought back to the table easily with, you know, if we do not address this,” she added.

Support for Biden in the upcoming election has plummeted among Arab Americans voters, dropping from 59 percent to 17 percent — a 42 percent decrease from 2020, according to a last month study by the Arab American Institute.

According to the polls, the major reasons for voters to be abandoning Biden in battleground states are concerns about his age and mental acuity, and dissatisfaction with the state of the economy. David Axelrod, who played a pivotal role in former President Barack Obama’s victorious presidential campaigns and had called Biden “perhaps the strongest candidate” against Trump in 2019, said that the president should reconsider running for re-election.

However, Biden campaign spokesperson Kevin Muñoz brushed off concerns over the recent polls.

“We’ll win in 2024 by putting our heads down and doing the work, not by fretting about a poll,” Munoz said in a statement.

  • Well , why will he not go down in the polls, when he’s tied to the so-called progressives like you professing constantly to move the country to the faaaaaar Left. Continue on your destructive path, and you will get the MAGA leader you deserve in the next election.

  • Biden could be in trouble only if Trumpis able to run and iscompetitive. That is, if he is still out of jail and his popularity has not fallen off due to his indictments and possibly more to follow. And if someone else replacesTrump inhis ticket, he/she standslittle chance against Biden.

  • “Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal fears that the 2024 election is in “great trouble” for President Joe Biden with new polls showing him trailing in multiple battleground states.”

If a Democratic congresswoman talks with a pessimistic tone with respect to Biden’s chances of winning in the 2024 election, how can that be good for Biden and her fellow democrats? Why isn’t she campaigning for Biden to boost his poll ratings instead of complaining about him?

“ David Axelrod, who played a pivotal role in former President Barack Obama’s victorious presidential campaigns and had called Biden “perhaps the strongest candidate” against Trump in 2019, said that the president should reconsider running for re-election.”

I was appalled and disappointed by Axelrod’s comment. A well-known Democratic strategist openly criticizing a Democratic presidential candidate is unprecedented and uncalled for. If he has issues with Biden, he should not only talk to Biden but also advise him as to how he should do things differently.

Comments of Jayapal and Axelrod on Biden’s presidency reinforces my views about Democrats and Republicans in that the Republicans are much better politicians than the Democrats. Republicans in general tend to stick together and speak with one voice, whereas the Democrats tend to be purists, perfectionists, and disunited, seldom speaking with one voice.

If Democrats underperform in the 2024 election, they will have no one to blame but themselves. It is they who raised the age issue of Biden, as if Trump is a spring chicken. It’s mind boggling that the Democrats cannot support Biden, who decisively defeated Trump in 2020, hired all the experienced people to address the pandemic that was totally mishandled by Trump, and stimulated the economy that was totally wrecked by Trump due to lockdowns in the wake of the pandemic. How can anyone ignore the 50 year low unemployment rate, 13 million jobs created in two years, and declining inflation rate resulting from increase in interest rates over a period of 11 months, engineered by the Federal Reserve? How can anyone ignore Biden’s unprecedented legislative accomplishments in two years with razor thin majorities in the Senate and the House? When was the last time we had a president with 36 years of experience in the Senate, 8 years of experience as a Vice President, and 4 years of experience as a President, running for the second term of presidency?

How can anyone vote for a twice impeached former president, Trump, who has been charged with 91 indictments in four criminal cases…a guy known for incompetence, dishonesty, relentless lying, corruption, racism, misogyny, and the like?

My prediction is that Trump will be convicted on at least one of the criminal charges before the 2024 election, which will not stop him from getting votes from MAGA Republicans and Republicans who traditionally always vote for a Republican candidate irrespective of who the candidate is but the Independents and the Centrists who determine the outcome of a tight election will be very reluctant to vote for a convicted felon, especially, once they find out that conviction implies that his guilt has been proven and his innocence cannot be presumed anymore, and indictment implies that he is innocent until proven guilty. I am sure the media will clarify this point when Trump actually gets convicted. Right now, a lot of people don’t know that conviction is a lot more serious scenario than indictment and assume that his popularity will go up once he gets convicted, as has been the case every time he got indicted. America seems to have lost its moral compass, suffers from a short memory, and thus has no problem supporting a candidate who is devoid of ethics, morality, and sense of decency. God help America!
