Rahman Reiterates Love For India After Communalism Controversy
MUMBAI – Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman has found himself at the center of a controversy over his remarks of communal issues playing a role in him getting shut out of several Bollywood projects.
He described hearing through what he called Chinese whispers that while he was initially booked for projects, music companies later opted to hire multiple other composers instead. Rahman added that he took such situations in stride, saying it simply gave him more time with his family.
With politicians and Bollywood personalities jumping into the fray and mostly condemning the star composer, Rahman has issued a clarification video on Instagram. Stressing that he never intended to hurt sentiments, he said music had always been his way of connecting with and honoring culture. Calling India his inspiration, teacher and home, Rahman said misunderstandings can arise but his purpose has always been to uplift and serve through music.
He expressed gratitude for his journey and said he felt blessed to be Indian, referencing projects such as Jala presented at the Wave Summit, Ruhi Noor, collaborations with young Naga musicians, mentoring the Sunshine Orchestra, building Secret Mountain, and scoring Ramayana alongside Hans Zimmer. He concluded by reiterating his commitment to music that honors the past, celebrates the present and inspires the future.
As the controversy unfolded, voices from the political and film worlds weighed in, including actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut. Condemning Rahman, she recalled what she described as an ‘unpleasant personal experience’ with him during her directorial venture ‘Emergency.’ Kangana said she had wanted to narrate the script to Rahman but he refused even to meet her, reportedly saying he did not wish to be part of a propaganda film.
In a post on Instagram Stories, Kangana alleged that despite facing prejudice in the industry for supporting a saffron party, she had not encountered anyone she felt was more prejudiced than Rahman. (IANS)

India should require all Indian citizens to file taxes for all income outside the USA. Too many of these Qatari Indians whose citizenship should be stripped on false filings.

It is time that all Islamis including the Khans that insulted Hindus to be punished with jail time just like Hindus would be for equivalent insults in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

I am so sad and appalled by such hate and prejudice toward one of the most brilliant musicians of India and the world. When will we stop with the friendly fire on our own?? Let’s celebrate his incredible music and admire his creativity. We will never progress if we judge people purely on the basis of their stated religion. If you go by that ethos, then you are no better than those who detest Hindus and think they are devil-worshipping savages. Rahman is a peace-loving Sufi and that should not even be relevant – he is a musician first and foremost and should be judged by his music alone unless he has committed any heinous criminal act.
