Reluctant Vivek Ramaswamy Being Asked To Take Vance’s Senate Seat?

India-West News Desk

CLEVELAND, OH — Vivek Ramaswamy, once a key figure in the Trump circles and slated to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has recently found himself out of the headlines. He has not been making waves lately, particularly with the growing attention Elon Musk – who he has been tapped to work with at DOGE – tweeting headlining making comments.

Media reports have said some of Ramaswamy’s posts on X, Musk’s social media platform, have created a rift within Trump’s MAGA movement, particularly a comment on H-1B temporary worker visas, where he criticized American culture for “venerating mediocrity over excellence,” a sentiment that drew mixed reactions from the political right.

But there may also be another reason for this. According to NBC News, the biotech entrepreneur, is being urged to fill the Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance in Ohio. This marks a reversal for Ramaswamy who has stated that he was not interested in the seat and if not Washington, he would prefer to run for governor of the state.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who is responsible for appointing an interim successor to Vance, recently met with Ramaswamy at the Governor’s Mansion in Columbus to discuss the Senate vacancy. Sources indicate that Trump has also encouraged Ramaswamy to join the Senate.

Ramaswamy, a Cincinnati native who now resides in the Columbus area, is widely believed to be eyeing a future run for governor, especially with DeWine’s term set to end next year. However, DeWine’s preferred successor, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, is also vying for the governorship, leading to speculation about a tough GOP primary. DeWine has considered appointing Husted to the Senate vacancy to help solidify his political future, but Husted has resisted this and is preparing for his gubernatorial campaign.
