WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Suhas Subramanyam, alongside House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Robert Garcia, has initiated a formal inquiry into the Trump administration’s use of private messaging platforms for government business. On October 29, they sent records preservation requests to the CEO of Truth Social and officials at X.
The move comes after reports that a recent Truth Social post by President Trump, addressed to Attorney General Pam Bondi, may have been intended as a private message – raising questions about the administration’s use of unauthorized apps and personal accounts for official communications.
The letters instruct both platforms to preserve all records from January 20, 2025, onward that relate to private messages, content, and data involving any member of the Trump administration.
“It’s rich that a president who built his political brand on communications security is now relying on private, unauthorized platforms for government business,” Subramanyam said. “The American people deserve transparency and oversight over these communication practices.”
The correspondence explicitly directs Truth Social and X not to delete, alter, or dispose of any relevant materials. The Oversight Committee’s request to the social media handles include all communications with foreign government official and messages discussing official U.S. government business
The investigation aims to determine whether the Trump administration’s use of these platforms bypassed official channels, mishandled sensitive discussions, or violated federal recordkeeping requirements.
