SAHARA Raises $800,000 For Victims Of Domestic Violence And Elder Abuse

CERRITOS, CA – The South Asian Helpline and Referral Agency held its 32nd annual gala at the Sheraton Cerritos here, on September 24. Over 250 people enjoyed this year’s theme of “empowerment through education.”
The keynote speaker was Dr. Jose Fierro – the President/Superintendent of Cerritos Community College District.
Over the course of the evening SAHARA raised nearly $800,000 to go towards its mission of providing support and wrap-around services for victims of Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse, a press release said.
SAHARA also said over the course of the last year, it has served 2,460 individuals – a 37% increase from the previous year. “We endeavor to make a difference one life at a time by providing wrap-around programs for victims of domestic violence and elder abuse. Many of our clients come to us with nowhere else to go and we provide them a safe place to grow and find true wellness of being,” stated Executive Director, James Jones.
Established in 1990, providing services to survivors of all forms of abuse in the South Asian community by providing them with culturally sensitive and linguistically specific services. Since inception SAHARA has provided wrap-around services to over 11,000 members of the community.
