San Diego Community Marks India Independence Day With Cultural Festivities

SAN DIEGO, CA – The Federation of Indian Associations San Diego celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with vibrant cultural performances and community recognition on August 17 at Lincoln High School, here. The event was organized in partnership with several local Indian associations representing different regions of the country.

Patriotic songs and dances featuring colorful costumes lit up the stage, entertaining a large audience of community members. Chief Guest Anil Kripalani spoke about India’s freedom struggle and highlighted the role of technology and innovation in shaping the nation’s progress and future.

California State Assembly Member for the 76th District, Dr. Darshana Patel, presented an Assembly Resolution dated August 15, 2025, commemorating India’s 79th Independence Day. Patel also recognized young artists who participated in the Youth Art and Creativity Contest, presenting certificates and awards on stage.

In addition to the cultural performances, the event honored local community leaders for their service. Krishna and Bonnie Arora, along with Gautam Bandyopadhyay, were recognized for their contributions to the Indian American community in San Diego.

The celebration combined cultural pride, civic recognition, and community engagement.
