Terror Group LeT Co-Founder Amir Hamza Injured In Shooting

LAHORE- Amir Hamza, one of the founding members of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, suffered bullet injuries after unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on his car at Hamdard Chowk near the Peko Road Pindi Stop in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat area on April 16, local media reported.

According to the reports, Hamza was returning home at around 8:30 a.m. after attending the religious program ‘Noor Sehar’ on a private television channel in Lahore when armed men got off a motorcycle and fired multiple rounds at his vehicle.

Nazir Ahmed Ghazi, host of the program, was also present in the car but was not injured, the reports said.

Hamza, along with UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, founded Lashkar-e-Taiba in the early 1990s. The group was designated by the United States Department of State as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity in December 2001.

Despite the ban, Lashkar-e-Taiba and its founders continued to operate in Pakistan and across the region, including carrying out activities targeting India.

According to the United States Department of the Treasury, Hamza was a member of Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Central Advisory Committee and maintained the group’s ties with other organizations under the direction of Saeed. He also led an associated charity and served on a trust headed by Saeed.

The US Treasury Department said Hamza’s responsibilities included publishing propaganda for the group. It said he served as editor of a weekly publication, contributed articles, helped negotiate the release of detained members, and headed Lashkar-e-Taiba’s ‘special campaigns’ department. (IANS)
