LOS ANGELES, CA – With filming wrapped, an October release date set for his feature directorial debut Good Fortune, and before the publicity for it kicks in, Aziz Ansari is hitting the road with his new Hypothetical tour and diving back into the stand-up world that launched his career.
The 32-city tour, which kicked off in Kansas City, Missouri, and concludes April 19 in Boston, marks Ansari’s most significant return to the stage since his 2021 Netflix special Nightclub Comedian.
That low-key performance — taped at The Comedy Cellar showcased a more contemplative, stripped-down version of the comic. It had been three years since his last hit special, and more than a decade since he drew a crowd of 12,000 for a high-energy hour at Madison Square Garden.
The South Carolina native — the son of Indian immigrants from Tamil Nadu — rose to fame with his role as Tom Haverford on Parks and Recreation, followed by a creatively ambitious leap into the acclaimed Netflix series Master of None, which earned him two Emmys for writing and a Golden Globe for acting.
Ansari’s Good Fortune, is said to be metaphysical comedy starring Keanu Reeves as a washed-up angel trying to earn his wings by helping flawed mortals played by Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer.
