Trump Reads To Children On Usha’s Podcast, Jokes About Not Becoming The ‘Heaviest’ President
WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump praised Second Lady Usha Vance during a special Independence Day edition of her children’s literacy podcast, calling her “so popular around the White House” and telling her, “Everybody loves you,” while sharing personal reflections on several former US presidents and encouraging children to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Trump appeared as the guest reader on ‘Storytime with the Second Lady’, hosted by Usha Vance from the Oval Office, where the pair read ‘Presidents Play!’, a children’s book published by the White House Historical Association.Trump described the Oval Office as “the most powerful piece of real estate probably in the world” and praised Vice President JD Vance, saying, “Your husband’s been a great vice president. I have to tell you, we’ve had a lot of fun working together, even in times of great stress, because the world is under stress, but we’re solving a lot of the problems.”Asked whether he still finds time to read for pleasure, Trump replied: “So I end up reading mostly newspapers. I usually read… stories about myself.”As they read through the book, Trump shared his thoughts on several former presidents. He described former President Lyndon B. Johnson as “a very tough cookie” and called former President Ronald Reagan “a high-quality person.”Speaking about former President Bill Clinton, Trump said, “He’s actually was a nice guy. I like Bill Clinton a lot.” Referring to former President John F. Kennedy, he joked that Kennedy was “the second most good-looking president, they say.”Reflecting on former President Richard Nixon, Trump said, “He spent a lot of time fighting to stay in office because he had a lot of… people got him into trouble and he got himself into trouble, I guess.”Discussing former President Barack Obama, Trump questioned his basketball skills before joking that although golf was Obama’s favorite sport, “he won’t be in the masters anytime soon.”Looking at a page featuring former President William Howard Taft, Trump joked, “He was our heaviest president and I have to be careful because I don’t want to supersede his record,” before encouraging children watching the program to “keep yourself in good shape.”Trump also joked about making it “mandatory” for his 11 grandchildren to watch the program after Vance expressed hope that they would tune in.”I’ll make sure they watch. I’ll make it mandatory,” Trump said, before adding with a laugh, “That won’t mean anything, that means they still won’t do it.””So here’s the book, and they’ve really done a great job. Publication, White House Historical Association,” Trump said before turning to Vance.”And I’m doing this for a great Second Lady, and she’s been so popular around the White House. Everybody loves you. It’s a great honor.”Vance thanked Trump before asking what advice he would give children celebrating the Fourth of July.”We have a great country… we’re going to make America greater than ever before. But the 4th of July is a fantastic day. It’s a day of celebration,” Trump replied. The podcast is part of an initiative launched by Usha Vance to encourage children to read through stories featuring guest readers from public life. (IANS)
