Tulsi Gabbard Admits “Mistake” In Adding Journalist To Chat On Military Plans

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard acknowledged on March 26 that it was a “mistake” for a journalist to be included in a Signal group chat where top national security officials discussed military strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen.
“It was a mistake that a reporter was inadvertently added to a Signal chat with high-level national security principals, having a policy discussion about imminent strikes against the Houthis and the effects of the strike,” Gabbard said during a House Intelligence Committee hearing with FBI Director Kash Patel sitting next to her.
However, she maintained that no classified information was shared in the chat. “Ideally, these conversations occur in person. However, at times, fast-moving and coordination of an unclassified nature is necessary where in-person conversation is not an option,” she added.
Despite Gabbard’s assurance, The Atlantic released additional excerpts from the chat on March 26, revealing that officials had discussed detailed strike timelines and targets. The group chat included Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, and other senior officials.
The editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, was also added to the chat. He later stated that he was invited by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, who has taken responsibility for the lapse.
Democrats have called for an investigation into the mishandling of sensitive military information. “This is classified information. It’s a weapon system, as well as a sequence of strikes, as well as details of the operations,” said Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL). “He needs to resign immediately.”
President Donald Trump has downplayed the incident, calling it a minor “glitch” and also saying he did not know anything about it.

Should not such a slip be totally unacceptable in these highest reaches of the government? Should not the highest security be expected in such circumstances? The government should be answerable to the legislators and the electorate for this major gaffe. Some heads should roll down.
