UN Recognizes Hundreds Of Indian Army Peacekeepers
NEW YORK, NY-The United Nations has awarded the United Nations Medal to 651 Indian Army personnel serving in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), recognizing their service under the UN peacekeeping mission, the Indian Army announced on July 4.
The medals were conferred during a ceremony held on July 3 at the Permanent Operating Base Sake, attended by senior officials of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), representatives of the Force Headquarters, military commanders and other distinguished guests.
The ceremony recognized the Indian contingent’s professionalism, operational excellence and dedicated service in one of the United Nations’ most challenging and volatile peacekeeping environments, where it has protected civilians, enhanced security, facilitated humanitarian assistance and supported the implementation of the UN mandate, the Army said.
The Army said the award of the United Nations Medal reflects the Indian Army’s long-standing reputation as one of the most dependable contributors to UN peacekeeping operations worldwide.
“It reflects India’s steadfast commitment to international peace and security and its resolve to protect vulnerable communities in conflict-affected regions,” the Army added.
The ceremony concluded with the peacekeepers reaffirming their commitment to continue serving under the UN flag with professionalism and integrity, the Army said. (IANS)
