Vivek Ramaswamy Officially Launches Bid For Ohio Governor

CINCINNATI, OH – Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy has officially announced his candidacy for Governor of Ohio, positioning himself as a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump and a champion of conservative values.

“Today, I am honored to announce that I am running to be the next governor of a great state at the heart of the greatest nation known to mankind—the state where I was born and raised, the state where Apoorva and I raise our two sons today—a state whose best days are still ahead,” Ramaswamy declared at a rally in Cincinnati.

Ramaswamy, a Hindu and the son of Indian immigrants, was raised in the city. He earned a biology degree from Harvard University and a law degree from Yale University. In 2014, he founded Roivant, a pharmaceutical company where he built a fortune by acquiring and developing drugs abandoned by major corporations.

His gubernatorial bid for 2026 marks his latest foray into politics after an unsuccessful run in the 2024 GOP presidential primary. Now, with Trump’s endorsement, Ramaswamy aims to reshape Ohio’s future under a conservative vision.

Ramaswamy, who built his political brand on an outsider image, emphasized his commitment to revitalizing Ohio and ensuring its prominence in business, education, and governance. His platform includes eliminating the state income tax, introducing merit-based pay for teachers, and expanding universal eligibility for publicly funded private school vouchers.

“President Trump is reviving our conviction in America. We require a leader here at home who will revive our conviction in Ohio,” Ramaswamy said, underscoring his alignment with Trump’s vision. Late Monday night, Trump endorsed Ramaswamy’s candidacy on Truth Social, calling him “something SPECIAL.”

“Vivek is also a very good person, who truly loves our Country. He will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, will never let you down, and has my COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT!” Trump wrote.

Ramaswamy outlined his ambition to position Ohio as a leader across multiple sectors, including business, education, and technology.

“I will lead Ohio to be the top state in the country to start and grow a new business. I will lead Ohio to be the top state to raise a young family. I’ll lead Ohio to be the top state where our kids receive a world-class education in math, reading, writing, critical thinking, and physical education,” he said.

He also pledged to cut through bureaucracy and foster a pro-business climate. “We will lead Ohio to be the top state where we embrace capitalism and meritocracy instead of apologizing for it. We will take a hatchet to red tape and overregulation. We will lead in future industries, from semiconductors to aerospace.”

Ramaswamy further positioned Ohio as an alternative to states like Texas and Florida, seeking to attract businesses and families.

“I will lead Ohio to be the state where patriots across America actually flock instead of Florida and Texas. I will lead Ohio to be the state of excellence in America.”

Throughout his campaign launch, Ramaswamy framed himself as an outsider willing to disrupt Ohio’s political establishment, drawing parallels to Trump’s governance style.

His outsider status was also evident in his brief involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a federal initiative initially co-headed with Elon Musk. However, just 69 days after his appointment, Ramaswamy withdrew. Reports suggest Musk wanted him removed, particularly after controversial comments Ramaswamy made about H-1B visas and American hiring practices.

Musk has now endorsed Ramaswamy’s run for office.
