WASHINGTON, D.C.– The Jain Society of Metropolitan Washington (JSMW) has successfully raised funds to support the upcoming Pratishtha Mahotsav, the inauguration ceremony of its new Jain temple in Beltsville, MD.

The fundraising event, Patrika Lekhan, took place on March 15 and 16, bringing together members of the Jain community in a show of dedication and collective effort. While the total amount raised has not been disclosed, organizers expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support.

Despite being a relatively small group of about 700 families, JSMW members demonstrated unity and commitment to their faith. “The energy in the room was electrifying,” said Vishal Mehta, President of JSMW. “This temple is more than a place of worship; it represents our shared legacy of faith, culture, and compassion, ensuring that future generations stay connected to Jain principles.”

Designed as a spiritual and educational hub, the new temple features intricately carved murtis of revered Tirthankars, along with meditation spaces aimed at fostering inner peace.

The Pratishtha Mahotsav is set to take place from May 31, with celebrations beginning on May 23.

Beyond religious services, the temple will serve as a center for learning and cultural preservation. “With a dedicated Pathshala (religious school), we are ensuring that young Jains have a space to learn and carry forward the timeless teachings of Jain philosophy,” said Dr. Gita Shah, Chairperson of JSMW’s Board of Trustees.
