
Women Of Greater Houston Unite To Celebrate Strength And Transformation

HOUSTON, TX– Women from across the Greater Houston Area gathered recently to celebrate leadership, empowerment, and community impact at an event organized by Shaktiworld, a program of the Lokadharma Seva Foundation of America. Under the theme Invoking Shakti, Transforming Communities, the event brought together professionals, community leaders, and advocates to discuss the importance of women’s strength in shaping society.
Notable speakers included Carol McCutcheon, a city council member and mayoral candidate for Sugar Land, who highlighted the ongoing need for gender equality emphasizing how gender parity contributes to societal progress.
Dr. Meenakshi Bhattacharjee, executive director of the Center for Applied Algal Research at Rice University, underlined the importance of recognizing women’s untapped potential. “Every woman carries a unique power—we must harness that energy to pursue our dreams,” Bhattacharjee affirmed.
The keynote address by Sangeeta Dua focused on the enduring power of Hindu goddesses as symbols of strength and wisdom. Dua urged women to embody these qualities in today’s world, referencing global leaders like Tulsi Gabbard, Giorgia Meloni, and Claudia Sheinbaum as examples of empowerment achieved through education, opportunity, and justice.
The event also featured a variety of interactive sessions, including a writing competition, networking opportunities, and cultural performances. Vendor booths offered traditional henna art, health consultations, and resources on financial literacy, enhancing the sense of community and support for all attendees.
The gathering concluded with a call to action from Megha Raja, who emphasized that Shakti Day was not just a celebration, but a movement for lasting change. “We must continue our efforts toward equality,” she said
