Yuvraj Singh Joins Delhi Capitals As Batting Coach
NEW DELHI-Delhi Capitals on October 13 announced the appointment of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as the franchise’s assistant and batting coach ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
A veteran of 304 One-Day Internationals, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals, Yuvraj, 44, was a key member of India’s title-winning teams at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. He has also mentored several established and emerging Indian players in recent years.
The appointment marks Yuvraj’s first formal coaching role and his debut in the IPL coaching setup.
It also reunites him with the Delhi franchise, which was then known as Delhi Daredevils. In 2015, the franchise signed him for a record Rs 16 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time. He played all 14 matches for the team that season.
“I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success,” Yuvraj said.
Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal, who is also the founder of JSW Sports, welcomed the appointment, citing Yuvraj’s match-winning experience and mentoring of young Indian players.
“Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today. His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad,” Jindal said.
Kiran Kumar Grandhi, co-owner of Delhi Capitals and founder of GMR Sports, also welcomed Yuvraj to the coaching setup, expressing confidence that his experience and understanding of the game would benefit the team.
Yuvraj featured in 132 IPL matches during his playing career, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets. (IANS)
