‘Words Cannot Explain It’: Vaibhav On Receiving India Jersey

NEW DELHI — For 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, receiving his first India jersey was the moment a lifelong dream became reality.

Fresh off earning his maiden call-up to India’s senior T20 squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England and the 2026 Asian Games, Sooryavanshi shared an emotional reaction after seeing the national jersey for the first time. At 15 years and 71 days, he became the youngest player selected for India’s senior team, surpassing a 36-year-old record held by Indian cricket great Sachin Tendulkar.

“Words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up the bat from day one and went to the ground for practice: that dream is fulfilled now. The biggest step in that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words,” Sooryavanshi said in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The teenager said seeing the jersey for the first time was an unforgettable moment.

“I felt like a dream when I saw that T-shirt; I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes things happen that you never imagined could happen. When it finally does, you don’t know how to react. That was exactly how I felt,” he said.

Sooryavanshi’s selection has put him on the verge of another milestone. If he plays during the upcoming tour, he will become the youngest player to debut for India in men’s international cricket, eclipsing another record held by Tendulkar.

India will play two T20 Internationals in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before traveling to England for a five-match series from July 1 to 11. The men’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games will begin on September 24 and conclude with the medal matches on October 3. (IANS)
