Actor Imran Khan Hires Lawyers To Fight Order To Leave India
MUMBAI-Bollywood actor Imran Khan is set to approach the Bombay High Court to challenge a notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) directing him to leave India by October 28 over his participation in a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan.
The protest, held on October 10, called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Khan, who holds Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) status and is an American citizen, was allegedly in violation of the Immigration and Foreigners Act for participating in the demonstration.
The actor is considering filing a writ petition in the Bombay High Court challenging the FRRO notice and has engaged MZM Legal LLP to represent him.
Khan was detained by police on October 10 in connection with the demonstration.
The support for him from activists has been immense. (IANS)
