‘Ramayana’ Trailer Does Not Play At Comic-Con, Yash Defends Ranbir

SAN DIEGO, CA – Fans expecting the global launch of the trailer for Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24 were left disappointed after producer Namit Malhotra announced that the unveiling had been postponed.

Malhotra told the audience the decision was made after Sony Pictures came on board as the film’s international distributor, prompting a change in the release plans for the trailer.

Although the trailer was not shown, the panel featured actors Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, director Nitesh Tiwari, and Malhotra discussing the ambitious adaptation of the Indian epic.

During the discussion, Yash, who plays Ravana and has been drawing great praise online, backed Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Rama, praising the actor’s dedication to the role.

“Nobody in this world can come and say, ‘I have the virtue to play Lord Rama.’ The fact that he said the same says it all. He is a fabulous actor. It’s not easy to play Lord Rama, and the way he has really worked, huge respect to him,” Yash said.

Ranbir revealed that he initially hesitated to accept the role, saying his doubts eventually gave way to gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility.

“I remember when the film was first offered to me, there was so much fear, so much doubt. ‘Will I be able to do this, am I capable enough?’ But I think that doubt changed into gratitude very early on. I think it was a blessing, an opportunity of a lifetime, and a moral responsibility,” he said.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ will be released in two parts, with the first installment scheduled to hit theaters this Diwali. The cast also includes Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol, Ravie Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Vivek Oberoi and Kunal Kapoor.
