TORONTO– Air India will begin operating its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the Toronto-Delhi route from August 1, introducing its latest cabin interiors in Canada while restoring daily service on the route.

The airline said the new aircraft will allow it to remove the technical fuel stop in Vienna on flights from Delhi to Toronto, cutting travel time by nearly three hours. The Delhi-Toronto flight will now take up to 17 hours instead of about 20, while the Toronto-Delhi service will continue to operate nonstop in about 16 hours. The revised schedule remains subject to available airspace.

Air India will also resume daily flights between Toronto and Delhi from August 1 after temporarily reducing the service to five flights a week in June and July because of high fuel prices and geopolitical developments that affected operations.

“Canada is home to one of the world’s largest Indian diaspora communities, and Toronto has long been one of Air India’s most important international gateways,” Air India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Campbell Wilson said. He said the deployment of the new aircraft is part of the airline’s ongoing effort to expand its newer products on key international routes.
