RICHMOND, VA – Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi has launched a statewide listening tour to hear from residents about the proposed acquisition of Dominion Energy by NextEra Energy, with a focus on how the deal could affect utility costs and communities.

Hashmi has expressed concern that the proposed transaction is too large and complex to receive adequate scrutiny through the State Corporation Commission’s standard six month review process. She has called for a more extensive review, including additional time for legislative oversight.

Her primary concern is the effect of the acquisition on ratepayers and whether the deal would serve the interests of Virginia families.

The Energy Costs Listening Tour, Hashmi’s office said, is intended to give Virginians an opportunity to learn more about the proposed acquisition, ask questions and voice their concerns before a decision is made.

The discussions will bring together elected officials, energy experts and community members to examine the potential impact of the deal on utility bills and Virginia’s energy future.
