Ekal DFW Raises $222,000 For Rural And Tribal Communities

GARLAND, TX – The Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation has raised approximately $222,000 in donations and pledges through a recent fundraising campaign to support its work in rural and tribal communities in Bharat.

The funds are expected to provide support equivalent to 252 Ekal schools. In addition, approximately three special development projects are expected to reach about 30 villages each, bringing the potential total reach to approximately 342 villages.

The campaign culminated in an August 28 event at the Granville Arts Center here that brought together donors, sponsors, volunteers, families, community organizations, civic leaders and other supporters. Ekal DFW said the effort was among the chapter’s strongest in terms of attendance, amount raised and participation by individual donors and supporters.

The program included the ceremonial lighting of the diya, the national anthems of the United States and India, recognition of distinguished guests and civic leaders, and a presentation on Ekal’s work.

A Shraddhanjali was also held for late Dhiren Kuntawala, the first president of Ekal DFW, honoring his leadership, dedication and contribution to establishing Ekal’s presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth community.

The evening featured DFW-based Kathak Rhythms, presenting “Kathak on the Silver Screen.” The local artists brought classical Indian traditions to the stage while reinforcing Ekal’s emphasis on Sanskar, cultural heritage and community engagement.

Approximately $222,000 in support and the potential to touch 342 villages represent much more than numbers – they represent education, opportunity, Sanskar and sustainable development for communities across Bharat,” said Meenu Suhalka, president of Ekal Vidyalaya DFW Chapter.
