India’s Role In Climate Change, Protecting Children,Critical: UNICEF

BAKU (ANI) – UNICEF India Representative Cynthia McCaffrey has emphasized the critical need for India’s active involvement in global and domestic efforts to combat climate change and address pollution, particularly its impact on children.

Speaking about India’s role on the international stage, McCaffrey highlighted its engagement at forums such as COP29 and the implementation of national and state-level climate action plans. “India’s participation globally is crucial because the world needs transformative changes,” she stated, adding that local initiatives are equally vital for driving meaningful progress.

McCaffrey also focused on the urgent issue of air pollution and its detrimental effects on children’s health and education. “Pollution must be addressed to ensure children can live and learn in safe environments,” she said. Stressing the need for clean air, she added, “Air pollution is a top priority when considering the broader impact of climate change on children.”

The UNICEF official noted that the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated a global shift toward online learning, including in India, but warned that the challenges posed by air pollution could disrupt education further if not addressed.
