Rep. Krishnamoorthi Recites Gayatri Mantra At National Prayer Breakfast

WASHINGTON, DC – On February 6 Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi addressed the National Prayer Breakfast at the United States Capitol, representing the Hindu community and reciting the Gayatri Mantra to an audience that included congressional leaders from both parties and President Trump, who also spoke.

Since 1953, the National Prayer Breakfast has been an opportunity for Members of Congress to pray collectively for our nation, our leaders, and our friends abroad in a spirit of love, reconciliation, and unity.

“It was an honor to address the National Prayer Breakfast this morning with my colleagues and represent the Hindu community at an event focused on uniting American communities. While we are a nation of countless faiths, we are united by our shared values and humanity. I was grateful for the opportunity to share the Gayatri Mantra with my colleagues as we work to expand the circle of inclusion to Americans of all faiths,” he said.

For his prayer, Congressman Krishnamoorthi recited the Gayatri Mantra in Sanskrit, one of the most sacred and auspicious in the Hindu faith and then said in English, “We meditate on the divine radiance of the Supreme Being, the source of life, who is worthy of worship. May that divine light enlighten and guide our intellect toward righteousness and truth.”
