MUMBAI — Nearly two decades after its release, Sunidhi Chauhan’s soulful track “Kaisi Paheli Zindagani” continues to enchant listeners, a legacy the singer herself recently reflected on with gratitude.

Chauhan recalled the recording as a turning point in her career, calling the song “unique and refreshing.” Blending a vintage sensibility with a cabaret-style rhythm, the track offered her something unlike anything she had sung before.

“What made it truly unforgettable was that it was picturized on Rekha ji — an icon, a legend, and someone I’ve admired all my life,” Chauhan said. “When I recorded it, I had no idea she would be performing it on screen. She lit it up with her presence and made me sound so good. To have my voice complement her timeless aura was the highest honor.”

Composed by Shantanu Moitra and penned by lyricist Swanand Kirkire, the number became an instant classic after featuring in the 2005 film Parineeta. Rekha’s spellbinding performance in the song, coupled with Chauhan’s expressive voice, cemented its place among Bollywood’s most elegant musical pieces.

Even today, the song’s graceful blend of nostalgia and sophistication keeps audiences returning to it, a testament to its enduring charm.
