US Warns: No Visas For Birthright Citizenship
India-West News Desk
NEW DELHI -The United States has warned that any indication of plans to give birth in the country to secure American citizenship for a child will result in visa denials.
The US Embassy in India said consular officers “will deny tourist visa applications if they believe the primary purpose of travel is to give birth in the United States to obtain US citizenship for the child.” The embassy added that such travel “is not permitted.”
The announcement comes amid expanded security and background reviews for visa applicants. The embassy said the Department of State already reviews the online presence of F, M, and J visa applicants, and beginning December 15, this process will extend to all H-1B specialty occupation workers and their H-4 dependents.
The update follows notifications sent to several applicants in India, informing them that their visa appointments had been rescheduled.
