Four Guinness World Records Set During Bengaluru–Vijayawada Highway Construction
NEW DELHI—The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set four Guinness World Records during construction on the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor of National Highway-544G, the agency announced on January 11.
The first record was for the longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete—covering 28.89 lane km, a 3-lane wide, 9.63 km section within 24 hours. The second record recognized the continuous laying of the highest quantity of bituminous concrete, totaling 10,655 metric tons in a single day. Both were achieved for the first time globally on this six-lane highway project.
Two additional records were added on January 11. One involved continuous laying of 57,500 metric tons of bituminous concrete, and the other covered continuous paving of 156 lane km—a 3-lane wide, 52 km long stretch—surpassing the previous world record of 84.4 lane km for a 2-lane, 42.2 km section. These achievements were executed across Package-2 and Package-3 of the corridor.
NHAI, working with concessionaire Rajpath Infracon Private Limited, completed the feats using an extensive fleet: 70 tippers, five hot mix plants, one paver, and 17 rollers.
The 343 km, access-controlled six-lane corridor features 17 interchanges, 10 wayside amenities, and a 5.3 km tunnel, with about 21 km passing through forest areas. Once complete, it will shorten travel distance between Bengaluru and Vijayawada by 100 km—from 635 km to 535 km—and cut travel time by nearly four hours, from twelve hours to around eight.
The corridor is expected to enhance regional connectivity, linking the Rayalaseema region with coastal and northern Andhra Pradesh and improving access to the Koparthy Industrial Node.
