Amish Shah Keeps It Alive, In Tight Race For Congress

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – The race for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District is too close to call, with incumbent Republican David Schweikert holding a narrow lead over Democrat Amish Shah.
Schweikert currently has 152,493 votes (50.8%) to Shah’s 147,503 votes (49.2%), with only 62% of ballots counted. An estimated 185,000 votes are still outstanding at the time of publication, leaving the outcome uncertain in this fiercely competitive district.
The district, which includes Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Fountain Hills, has traditionally leaned Republican but is now one of Arizona’s most hotly contested areas. Nearly a third of its voters are registered Independents, adding to the unpredictability of the outcome.
Shah, who has served as an emergency room physician for two decades, first entered politics with his election to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2017. His campaign focuses on healthcare improvements and raising teacher salaries—issues he hopes will resonate with a broad range of voters in this pivotal race.
