Remembering R.D. Burman’s Magic Through His Evergreen Hits
Rahul Dev Burman was affectionately known as Panchamda. The son of renowned music director S.D. Burman, Panchamda’s captivating music graced both Hindi and Bengali films for decades, creating timeless classics. He collaborated with celebrated artists like Gulzar, Asha Bhosle, and Kishore Kumar, crafting songs for every mood and occasion.
Here are some of his iconic creations:
O Haseena Zulfonwale Jane Jahan
This popular song from the 1966 film Teesri Manzil, directed by Vijay Anand and produced by Nasir Hussain, remains one of his iconic creations. Sung by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle, it’s also famously remembered for the dance performance by Shammi Kapoor and Helen.
Kya Jaanu Sajan
When Majrooh Sultanpuri’s heartfelt lyrics were accompanied by R.D. Burman’s exquisite tune and Lata Mangeshkar’s magical voice, it was pure magic. This song from the movie Baharon Ke Sapne, picturized on Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh, leaves a lasting impression.
O Mere Dil Ki Chain
Sung by Kishore Kumar from the film Mere Jeevan Saathi, this famous track is among the music composer’s most renowned romantic numbers and a hit for Rajesh Khanna.
Chanda O Chanda
Despite his inclination towards Western music, R.D. Burman was adept at creating magic with semi-classical tunes. “Chanda O Chanda” from Lakhon Me Ek perfectly exemplifies this. Kishore Kumar’s soothing voice elevates a simple arrangement. Although bright for a lullaby, Panchamda managed to keep it calming and hummable.
Bachke Rehna Re Baba
This song from the movie Pukar, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, and Randhir Kapoor, was sung by R.D. Burman, Asha Bhosle, and Kishore Kumar, with music also composed by R.D. Burman. (ANI)
