Pediatrician Arrested For Four-Year-Old Daughter’s Murder

MIAMI-DADE -A 36-year-old pediatrician, Dr. Neha Gupta, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the drowning death of her 4-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi. The arrest was made in Oklahoma City following an investigation by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau.

The incident occurred on June 27, at approximately 4:28 A.M., when uniform officers from the Village of El Portal Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a drowning child in a residential pool at 156 NW 90 Street, El Portal, Florida. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported Aria Talathi to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Gupta and her daughter had traveled from Oklahoma City, and were staying at a short-term rental in El Portal. Following an investigation and consultation with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office,detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gupta. She was located and taken into custody in Oklahoma City with the assistance of the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Homicide Unit and the United States Marshals Service.

Dr. Neha Gupta is pending extradition to Miami-Dade County, where she will face charges of first-degree murder.
