Dancer Amarnath Ghosh Shot Dead In St.Louis, Say Friends

ST.LOUIS, MO – Amarnath Ghosh, a dancer who was pursuing a doctorate at the prestigious Washington University here, was shot dead while taking an evening walk. Initial reports say he was shot several times by an unknown assailant.

While no statements have yet been made by the police, it was The founder of Ayodhya Foundation, Meenakshi Sharan who posted on social media, “Kuchipudi dancer par excellence, #AmarnathGhosh shot dead in St. Louis, Missouri! Please help @IndianEmbassyUS @DrSJaishankar. The only child in the family lost his father at a very young age, lost his mother 3 years back, was perusing his PHD in the US.”

TV actress and ‘Bigg Boss’ regular Devoleena Bhattacharjee has sought the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar for the return of the body of her friend.

The ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’ and ‘Dil Diyaan Gallaan’ actress penned a long note on her friend from Kolkata. ” Only child in the family, mother died three years back, father passed away during his childhood. Well, the reason, the details of the accused are not revealed yet, or perhaps no one is left in his family to fight for it except his few friends. He was from Kolkata.”

The university website describing Ghosh said the student was, “Interested in exploring the diverse unity of various cultures through the compositions of Sri Rabindranath Tagore, one of the most revolutionary Bengali poets and philosophers of all time. As a native Bengali, his research focuses on bringing out the concept of race and ethnicity through the art of dance.”

Ghosh’s website says he is a graduate of the Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts and an exponent in four dance styles- Bharatnatyam,  Kuchipudi, Manipuri and Kathak.
