NEW DELHI – Errol Musk, the often outspoken and enigmatic father of tech billionaire Elon Musk, arrived here on June 1 for his first-ever visit to India. While his son may be known for launching rockets and riling up the internet, Errol’s quiet touchdown in the capital signals something more grounded: a serious foray into India’s rapidly evolving green energy landscape.

The 78-year-old South African engineer-entrepreneur has been appointed to the Global Advisory Board of Servotech Power Systems, a rising Indian firm at the forefront of EV charging technology and solar infrastructure. His week-long itinerary reflects India’s strategic push toward sustainability—and the government’s growing willingness to align with global thought leaders and influencers to meet its 2070 net-zero carbon emissions target.

Media reports say Musk will tour the company’s key manufacturing facilities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, hold closed-door meetings with senior officials from the Ministries of Power, Renewable Energy, and Heavy Industries, and participate in high-level policy roundtables with India’s leading clean tech innovators.

He told NDTV, when asked about his son’s jam-packed schedule and growing global empire…“Get some rest,” he chuckled, revealing that he often urges Elon to slow down. “He is 53. People at 53 say, ‘Oh, we are too old’. But he is like someone in his early 30s.”

But rest isn’t the only thing Errol Musk recommends for his son. “I am quite surprised he has not been to India,” he added. “If he doesn’t, he’s making a big mistake.” A long-anticipated visit by Elon Musk was scheduled for April but was postponed due to urgent matters at Tesla. It remains unclear when it will be rescheduled.

Elon Musk’s companies, particularly Tesla and Starlink, have long been in talks with Indian authorities about market entry. Starlink is awaiting final regulatory approval to launch its satellite internet services in rural India, while Tesla’s long courtship with India over tax breaks and local manufacturing continues to be a balancing act.

Complicating matters further is Musk’s ongoing tussle with the Indian government over content moderation and data localization policies on X.
