NEW YORK, NY – World Bank President Ajay Banga, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, both of whom need no introduction, are among the Indian Americans Time magazine’s ‘100 Most Influential People’ list for 2024.
The other names featured in the list include astronomer Priyamvada Natarajan, a professor in the departments of astronomy and physics at Yale University. She is noted for her work in mapping dark matter and dark energy, particularly with her work in gravitational lensing, and in models describing the assembly and accretion histories of supermassive black holes.
Senior US Department of Energy official Jigar Shah is on the list He is the director of the Loan Programs Office in the US Department of Energy. Since the passing of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act through Congress in 2022, the funds to the Loan Programs Office increased tenfold. Shah leads the office in churning out million- and billion-dollar loans to clean energy technologies majorly advancing the Biden Administration’s efforts to bring clean energy to the US.
The British actor with Indian roots, Dev Patel, who’s latest Hollywood film Monkey Man is doing well at the box office is on the list as is Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt.
Chef and rights activist Asma Khan, who is an India born British restaurateur and cookbook author, features on the list. She owns Darjeeling Express restaurant in London’s Soho and was profiled on the sixth season of the documentary series Chef’s Table.
Another prominent Indian who features in the list is Sakshi Malik, India’s only female Olympic medalist in wrestling who led the protest against the alleged sexual harassment of female grapplers by former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. “Proud to be included in the 2024 #TIME100 list,” Sakshi wrote on X.
